On thin ice (advanced only)

Three nations, once locked in a bitter war for a decade, have now celebrated a declared peace for the last five years. On the anniversary of the truce is a festival held in the largest and centrally-located of the three nations, and here people gather from around the land to swap stories, goods, eat food, and celebrate peacetime. The crux of the festival is a ceremony in which patrons crumple and tear a piece of paper dyed to represent their country's colors and throw them into the capital square. This is representative of 'tossing out' the old laws and making way for the new laws of three united nations.

It's the day of the ceremony; the festivities rage on well past the paper ceremony and on into the night. As the people sleep, so does a looming danger--mother nature seeks to stir the pot.

And this is where my ideas end. My thought is that we could sort of introduce characters at the festival and so forth, and then some kind of huge natural disaster strikes so it's almost something of a post-apocalyptic environment, but to what degree is something we could discuss. I was also thinking a kind of fantasy setting, but with a mixed-tech vibe to it....bordering on steampunk but not totally. Again, specifics are up for discussion. And I like the idea of the truces being a little unsteady here and there. Perhaps that could lead to some good conflict, maybe a new war....we'll see--whatever we come up with.

This is based off a really detailed dream I had this summer and I've really been itching to play with it lately.
If you're interested, please be an advanced writer, post maybe a few times a week, and please, do contribute to the storyline and setting! I love doing collaborative stuff. Also, please have in-depth characters. You can make one up as you go, (I'll be doing that) but I guess just be sure to give them lots of life.

Thoughts? Interest?
