Auto Insurance Basics ? Sandra Oh Fan

October 20th, 2012 by admin Leave a reply ?

Auto Insurance Roseville MN Each year, more cars hit our roads and freeways. This can lead to a higher possibility of a collision for you and your family. If you get in a car accident, the car insurance you have can make a large difference in how much you have to pay. How can you determine what insurance you require and how you can buy it? Insurance requirements vary by state/province, but usually include the following: Liability: This type of insurance can pay for the damage that you have caused. These damages may include bodily injury, and property damage. If you are sued, it also pays your legal fees. Recommended, higher levels of insurance can be purchased that take care of more events than the stripped-down, state-mandated varieties. Personal Injury Protection: Personal injury insurance is mandated in some states and is optional in others. It pays you or your passengers for medical treatment resulting from a crash, regardless of who may have been at fault, and is often called no-fault coverage. It may also pay for lost wages, replacement of services and funeral expenses. Local government usually sets minimum amounts. Medical Payments: This coverage is available in states that are not considered no-fault; it will pay despite who may have been at fault. All necessary medical or funeral expenses will be paid for under this insurance policy. Collision: Pays for damages to your car caused by a collision. Comprehensive: Applies if your car is stolen or damaged by causes other than a collision, including fire, wind, hail, flood or vandalism. Uninsured Motorist: Many drivers are ignoring the law by driving without having the proper amount of insurance. This type of coverage will protect you if you are in an accident with one of these irresponsible drivers. Under-Insured Motorist: Just like uninsured motorist protection, this type of insurance covers you from people driving without sufficient insurance coverage. Other kinds of car insurance, such as emergency road service and car rental, can also be purchased.

(AP) ? Microsoft's first tablet computer, the Surface, will start at $499 when it goes on sale Oct. 26.

The price matches that of Apple Inc.'s iPad, the most popular tablet computer, but the base model of the Surface has twice as much storage memory: 32 gigabytes. The screen is also slightly larger.

The signature hardware feature of the tablet, a cover that doubles as a keyboard, will cost another $100, Microsoft Corp. said Tuesday. A step-up model for $699 has twice the memory, 64 GB, and includes a cover.

The launch of the Surface is an unusual move for Microsoft, which usually sells software to computer makers instead of making computers itself. It coincides with the launch of Windows 8, a version of the operating system that's designed to work better on touch-screen computers and tablets.

Microsoft will be selling the tablet in its own stores in the U.S. and Canada and online in those countries, plus Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong and the U.K.

The Touch Cover has a working, printed keyboard on its inside surface, but the "keys" don't move when pushed. Microsoft will sell a separate Type Cover with keys that move for $130.

The first version of the Surface doesn't have a regular Intel-style PC processor and won't run regular PC software, but it does include a version of the Office suite. Microsoft plans to release another version of the Surface some months later with a more traditional processor and the ability to run regular Windows programs. It did not disclose prices for that model.

The Secrets Of ?Stealthy Meditation? Revealed | Care2 Healthy Living

People sometimes make the mistake of thinking that meditation needs to not only happen in a quiet, seated position, but that it needs to happen on the ideal cushion, and in the most serene and peaceful setting.? We want to shop for the best Zabuton, create a beautiful alter, and even have a separate ?meditation room? ? and when one of those things fails to come to fruition we somehow never get around to putting our little tushies on the cushion and getting to work.

Does this sound familiar?

Needless to say, this kind of thinking tends to set us up for failure, because the circumstances are never quite perfect enough for us to get down to business and to reap the incredible rewards of this very powerful practice.

Truthfully, the only thing that we need for meditation is our mind ? and the fact that our minds travel with us pretty much everywhere (let?s hope!), this means that we can actually meditate in any place, at any time, even at a moment?s notice.

Now, when I say, ?Meditation,? what do I really mean?

While there are lots of different kinds and styles of meditation (transcendental meditation, meditations involving mantras or guided visual imagery), what I?m talking about here is a variation on the theme of?mindfulnessmeditation, where the only ?goal? is to be totally present with your current experience, no matter what that experience is.

The essence of mindfulness meditation takes the following premise as fact:? That as human beings we (quite ironically) spend most of our days engrossed in thoughts of the past or the future, despite the fact that nothing truly exists except for the present moment.

The past is gone, and is nothing but a memory. The future hasn?t happened yet, and is nothing but a fantasy.

The only thing that truly exists in this world is, for me, currently, my fingers tap tap tapping on this keyboard as I write this article ? and for you, your eyes looking at these very words on your screen as you read them.

That?s it.? That?s all we?ve got, folks ? this very moment, right now. To have an active meditation practice is to ? effectively -?remind yourself of that over and over (and over) again.

From that viewpoint we can say that your only ?job? when you meditate is to be truly present ? whether it?s with your breath, the feeling of your butt on your seat, or what have you.? Now, with that in mind?

How can you take this show on the road?

Now that we?ve established that the only ?goal? of meditation is to be present, you can easily see how this practice can travel with you anywhere.? The only question is how you can do it without anyone even noticing!

I like to call this practice ?stealthy meditation,? and the name of the game is simply to be totally present with whatever is happening for you at any given moment.

As an example, let me set a scene:? Imagine that you?re out at dinner with a group of friends.? If you notice that your mind is elsewhere ? perhaps the service isn?t good and you?re finding it to be a distraction ? allow those thoughts to just gently leave your mind.? Check in with yourself by taking a deep breath, and focus on the feeling of your body in your chair.

Your five senses are vitally important in this practice, and your invitation is to focus on any one of them, while allowing any thoughts of past or future to melt away.

Take a moment and check in with your body. Do a brief scan ? are you carrying tension somewhere? Try to let it go. Notice anything that?s physically present for you at this moment.

In our fantasy sequence, where you?re with your friends in the restaurant, is there a candle on the table? Allow your gaze to soften on it. In fact, if it feels right, look at the flame like you?ve never looked at a flame before.? Truly SEE it.

As you hear your friends speaking, allow the sound of their voices to sink in through your ears ? all the way to your bones. If it?s a loud, clamorous restaurant, don?t fight it.? Instead be truly present with the noise.? Take a deep breath and find a place of peace amidst the bustle.

If you decide to take a bite of food, try to savor every flavor that crosses your palate.? Truly notice what the food feels like as it touches your lips, or as you chew.

Return to your breath.

The goal is simply to be truly present, and through that presence to find peace.? That peace is within you.

Are you with me?? This is the path to freedom.

Turkey condemns U.N. inaction as Syrian conflict deepens

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan rebuked the U.N. Security Council for inaction over Syria on Saturday, saying the world body was repeating mistakes that led to massacres in Bosnia in the 1990s.

President Bashar al-Assad's forces used air strikes and artillery to bombard insurgents on several fronts in Syria, as the 19-month-old conflict risks dragging in regional powers.

Turkey is increasingly entangled after intercepting a Syrian airliner carrying what it said were Russian-made munitions for the Syrian army, infuriating Moscow and Damascus. It has led calls for intervention, including no-fly zones enforced by foreign aircraft to stop deadly air raids by Assad's forces.

But there is little chance of U.N. support for robust action. China insists any solution to Syria's crisis must come from within while Russia has said many Syrians still support Assad. Western nations meanwhile are loath to commit to any military action that could touch off a regional sectarian war.

"The U.N. Security Council has not intervened in the human tragedy that has been going on in Syria for 20 months, despite all our efforts," Erdogan told a conference in Istanbul attended by leaders including Arab League Secretary General Nabil Elaraby. "There's an attitude that encourages, gives the green light to Assad to kill tens or hundreds of people every day."

The bloodshed has worsened markedly in the past two months although neither side has been able to gain a distinct advantage, with government forces relying heavily on air power and artillery to batter the rebels.

Combat has been reported nationwide but the crucial strategic battles are being fought in an arc through western Syria, where most of the population lives.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu met U.N. special envoy Lakhdar Brahimi, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle and Libya's wartime rebel Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril to discuss Syria on the sidelines of the Istanbul conference.

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said this week Brahimi would visit Syria soon to try to persuade Assad to call an immediate ceasefire.

The Syrian government dispatched warplanes to attack insurgent forces surrounding the Wadi-al-Dayf military barracks near Maarat al-Numan in Idlib province, wounding 22 rebels, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The rebels captured Maarat al-Numan this week, cutting the main north-south highway linking Damascus, Homs and Aleppo, and government forces will need to retake it in order to reinforce and resupply Aleppo - Syria's largest city and commercial hub.

MEMORIES OF SREBRENICA

The U.N. Security Council, divided between Western powers on one side and Russia and China on the other, has proved helpless in halting a conflict which has spiraled into civil war and killed more than 30,000 people.

Erdogan said a system which allowed one or two nations to block intervention in such a grave humanitarian crisis was inherently unjust, and that Syria would go down in history as a U.N. failure much like Bosnia in the 1990s.

"How sad is that the United Nations is as helpless today as it was 20 years ago when it watched the massacre of hundreds of thousands of people in the Balkans, Bosnia and Srebrenica," Erdogan told the Istanbul conference.

The July 1995 massacre in Srebrenica was the worst on European soil since World War Two, in which Dutch U.N. peacekeepers abandoned what had been designated a U.N. safe haven to advancing Bosnian Serb forces, who then killed 8,000 Muslim men and boys and bulldozed their corpses into pits.

Turkish officials had expressed hope they might be able to persuade Moscow, which sold Syria $1 billion of arms last year, to soften its opposition at the Security Council and that if it succeeded, China would follow suit.

But relations between Ankara and Moscow sank to a new low on Wednesday after Turkey forced down a passenger jet flying from Moscow and publicly accused Russia of ferrying military equipment to Assad's forces.

Russia has said there were no weapons on the plane and that it was carrying a legal shipment of radar equipment.

REBELS CONTROL BORDER TOWN, FOR NOW

Elsewhere on Syria's battlefronts on Saturday, government forces rained mortar fire down on the opposition-held Khalidiya neighborhood of the city of Homs, the Observatory said. Explosions were felt throughout the besieged district.

To the south of Damascus near Deraa - cradle of the uprising which began with peaceful street rallies - Assad's troops and rebels were fighting on the edge of the town of Maarba.

After four days of heavy fighting in the town of Azmarin on the Turkish border, the rebels appeared to have a fragile hold.

"Praise be the town is now in our hands ... We have raised two flags inside the town and the battles are over. Azmarin is completely under our control," one resident, who did not want to be named, told Reuters by telephone from inside the town.

But a few km (miles) along the border clashes continued in the Syrian town of Darkush, where the crack of gunfire and sporadic sound of shelling could be heard from Turkey.

In a preliminary death toll across the country for Friday alone, the Observatory listed about 160 dead. Among them were a 3-year-old child killed in a bombardment of old Aleppo, a district whose ancient buildings have been severely damaged.

Tensions between Ankara and Damascus have also worsened. Turkey scrambled two fighter jets on Friday after a Syrian helicopter bombed Azmarin and has warned of a more forceful response if violence continue to spill over the border after a shell from Syria killed five Turkish civilians 10 days ago.

"If similar border violations occur again, and we feel that Turkey's national security is under threat, we will retaliate without hesitation," Davutoglu said.

Syria's state news agency SANA said Damascus was ready to accept a Russian proposal for a Syrian-Turkish joint security committee to try to contain the border violence. There was no confirmation of this from the Turkish side.

Scientists identify trigger for explosive volcanic eruptions

Saturday, October 13, 2012

Scientists from the University of Southampton have identified a repeating trigger for the largest explosive volcanic eruptions on Earth.

The Las Ca?adas volcanic caldera on Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, has generated at least eight major eruptions during the last 700,000 years. These catastrophic events have resulted in eruption columns of over 25km high and expelled widespread pyroclastic material over 130km. By comparison, even the smallest of these eruptions expelled over 25 times more material than the 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallaj?kull, Iceland.

By analysing crystal cumulate nodules (igneous rocks formed by the accumulation of crystals in magma) discovered in pyroclastic deposits of major eruptions, the scientists found that pre-eruptive mixing within the magma chamber ? where older cooler magma mixed with younger hotter magma ? appears to be the repeating trigger in large-scale eruptions.

These nodules trapped and preserved the final magma beneath the volcano immediately before eruption. Dr Rex Taylor, Senior Lecturer in Ocean and Earth Science at the University of Southampton, investigated nodules and their trapped magma to see what caused the eruptions. He found that the nodules provide a record of the changes occurring in the magma plumbing right through to the moment the volcano erupted.

Dr Taylor says: "These nodules are special because they were ripped from the magma chamber before becoming completely solid ? they were mushy, like balls of coarse wet sand. Rims of crystals in the nodules grew from a very different magma, indicating a major mixing event occurred immediately before eruption. Stirring young hot magma into older, cooler magma appears to be a common event before these explosive eruptions."

Co-author of the study, Dr Tom Gernon, Lecturer in Ocean and Earth Science at the University of Southampton, says: "The analysis of crystal nodules from the volcano documents the final processes and changes immediately prior to eruption ? those triggering the catastrophic eruptions. The very presence of mushy nodules in the pyroclastic deposits suggests that the magma chamber empties itself during the eruption, and the chamber then collapses in on itself forming the caldera."

The Las Ca?adas volcano is an IAVCEI (International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior) Decade Volcano ? identified by the international community as being worthy of particular study in light of their history of large, destructive eruptions and proximity to populated area.

Dr Gernon, who is based at the National Oceanography Centre at Southampton's waterfront campus with Dr Taylor, adds: "Our findings will prove invaluable in future hazard and risk assessment on Tenerife and elsewhere. The scale of the eruptions we describe has the potential to cause devastation on the heavily populated island of Tenerife and major economic repercussions for the wider European community."

Colbert: Super-rich earned their super-wealth

By Craig Berman, NBC News contributor

On the night of the vice-presidential debate, both Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert were hamstrung by their early tape times. Anyone waiting for their take on the Joe Biden-Paul Ryan slugfest would have to wait until Monday.

That didn?t stop Colbert from discussing it briefly, even though he admitted up front. ?I haven?t seen it yet. Nor will I ever ? it?s the vice-presidential debate.?

He focused on the complaints from the right that the moderator was Martha Raddatz. President Barack Obama was at her wedding 21 years ago to Obama?s law school classmate -- who she divorced in 1997.?

For Colbert, it?s enough to prove a conspiracy. ?He knew that panini press would pay off eventually for the running mate he hadn?t met yet,? the host said. And if the gift wasn?t enough, there was the implied social obligation to tilt the scales for Biden. After all, ?What woman doesn?t love doing a favor for her ex-husband?s friends??

Then again, who needs petty friends like Raddatz anyway? Colbert?s guest was author Chrystia Freeland, plugging her book ?Plutocrats, The Rise of the New Global Super-Rich and the Fall of Everyone Else.?

Of course, Colbert sees no problem with that trend. ?Why is that a problem? The super-rich have super-earned all their super-wealth.?

Freeland agreed that this was the attitude among her subject group. Some argue that the tax burden should be reduced because of their voluntary contributions to their favorite causes, which presumably are more appropriate than the government?s plan for their tax dollars.

?We may not need roads or schools, but we do need the ballet,? Colbert said.

?Exactly. You may not need air traffic controllers, because you have your own private jet,? Freeland responded.

Stewart, meanwhile, focused on the low-hanging fruit: the downticket races. Like his old friend from Missouri, Senate candidate Todd Akin, and his thoughts on how the female body can protect itself from becoming pregnant if a woman is?really raped.

?Yeah, the female body shuts it down if it?s legitimate rape,? Stewart said, of its magical powers. ?It can repel rape sperm! It can turn ordinary rocks into beautiful gems in minutes!?

He also noted the divergent attitudes towards military service displayed by Florida candidate Allen West, who touts his own work in his TV ads, and Illinois? Joe Walsh, who says opponent Tammy Duckworth talks about her own service too much in contrast to the ?real heroes? who minimize their contributions.

?Can I be there when you tell Allen West he?s not a real hero?? Stewart hoped.

Elsewhere on "Live!", Jimmy Kimmel suggested the participants in various presidential and vice-presidential debates could be kept within stricter time limits if they were only treated like winners on award shows -- by being played off with music. After showing an example of Vice-President Joe Biden being handled in such a way, Kimmel quipped, "He didn't even have a chance to thank his agent."

And "Late Show's" David Letterman decided to lease up on Mitt Romney, turning on VP candidate Paul Ryan instead, with "Top 10 Thoughts Going Through Paul Ryan's Mind At This Moment," referring to photos of Ryan pumping iron and wearing a backwards-facing baseball cap.

"It's like the Backstreet Boys or something," said Letterman derisively of the photo shoot.

So what was Ryan's No. 1 thought during the shoot? "Maybe now?people will take me seriously."

Pic Grunger: Picture Like a Rock Star | Facebook for Businesses and ...

It?s time to think of photography as supernova momentum in the galaxy of social media; because social media cares about what stands out, what immediately grabs attention and what kind of content will resonate and simmer in the viewer?s mind like creative kindling for you marketing fire. So what creates a boom in this social galaxy?

Visuals. Visuals. And more visuals.

With the advent of smartphones, everyone is a photographer. And since we do not have expensive cameras with thousand dollar lenses, we use apps to fill in the professional photography gaps. Apps that give our images the needed zing to generate more comments. Apps that can create that edgy, youthful and energetic branding image for your company profile.

Let?s explore a fantastic app that will fulfill these visual needs for only $0.99

Pic Grunger amplifies any photo in seconds. The easy-to-use app for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch features tools that will take plain photos and make them grungy hangings on some underground rock club?s wall. Even if you are not a music junkie, this app will transform the look of your business by adding vibrant color and flare to pictures that get lost amongst the more attractive clutter.

Choose from 11 different grunge effects, seven textures and 6 color styles to apply. Once you are done editing borders, textures and effect strengths, save your photo to your mobile device or share it on Facebook, Twitter and Flickr.

As ?going mobile? continues to skyrocket, it is essential that your business keep pace with the aesthetic demands of a visual society. Gone are the?days when information pamphlets and grass root marketing was enough to stir up the awareness pot. It?s clear as day that text-based campaigns do not stimulate the curiosity of the average internet user. And going viral is flukey at best.

Therefore, it is more beneficial to place your stock in photography by using inexpensive applications that will help retain daily viewership- unlike viral videos which come and go like the turning tide. Take some snapshots, add some effects to it and see what kind of interest if garners amongst your following.

Are Celebrities Qualified To Have Political Opinions?

Obama Campaign co-chair Eva Longoria speaks to the audience on the final day of the Democratic National Convention Obama Campaign co-chair Eva Longoria speaks to the audience on the final day of the Democratic National Convention

Photograph by Robyn Beck/AFP/Getty Images.

My husband and I were recently asked to host a fundraiser by Democratic New York state senatorial candidate Brad Hoylman. We immediately got down on our knees and begged him to reconsider: ?Why are you intent on destroying your career?? we asked him. ?We are both way too fluffy for this kind of thing! Shields and Yarnell have more political cred than we do. Get yourself someone with gravitas, like Tom Brokaw or Tom Friedman, or anyone called Tom!? we shrieked.

Call it ?Snooki Effect.? (Rumor has it that when the folks at Coach clocked the Jersey Shore star toting their bags they promptly sent her a Gucci purse. Their intention was to redirect the potentially brand-corroding effects of her patronage.) My Jonny and I were terrified that we, with our J-list celeb wattage, might taint and derail Brad?s career by association.

Despite all our misgivings, the fundraiser went off surprisingly well. I attribute this to the fact that I stayed on the couch the entire time pretending to be a cushion.

While I am acutely aware of my limitations as a source for political opinions and credibility, the same cannot be said of the A-listers du jour. Like the attention-seeking activists depicted in the Andy Warhol movie Women in Revolt, today?s actresses are a bunch of PIGs (Politically Involved Girls).

Which brings us to the burning question: Obama has Hollywood, but does he want Hollywood? Is it serving him well? The Republicans have John Elway, and the Democrats have Reese Witherspoon. Sports gods have more heroic cred than anyone on Earth. But rom-com queens? Is it helping Obama to have all those thespians and carnies in his corner? Does he earn votes when Katy Perry gets a Barack Obama manicure? Celebs are well-intentioned. They just want to help out. But do ?folks??that?s what politicians call human beings?in the swing states look to actresses and action heroes for political sign-posting?

Oblivious to any potential Snooki Effect, the celebs are convinced that they can have a positive impact. When Madonna screeched, ?We have a black Muslim in the White House. Now that's some amazing s?t,? I?m sure she thought she was doing a real mitzvah for the Democrats. A-listers like Madge?as opposed to J-listers like me and Jonny?enjoy a glorious omnipotence, and, as a result, it never occurs to them that they might not be qualified to hold opinions of any kind, and that they should spend their off-duty hours trying to blend into the upholstery.

Whence comes my brutal self-awareness, my conviction the vast majority of the populace is simply too fluffy to hold opinions about anything? I?m glad you asked. Two words: Terry Doonan.

My dad was an old-school news journalist at the BBC, back before our lives were overtaken by 24-hour speculative commentary delivered by ?folks? with showgirl maquillage and foaming tresses ... and that?s just the men. Terry was immersed in current affairs his entire professional life. Despite his minimal education?aged 15 he ran away from home and joined the Air Force during World War II?Terry?s knowledge was encyclopedic. His career spanned the Bay of Pigs, Suez, right through to the fall of the Berlin Wall. His attitude could be summed up as follows: Facts are more important than opinions. Facts should precede opinions. Since most people have only a glancing connection to the facts, most people?s opinions are shite.

I rarely heard Terry, or any of his boozy colleagues, espouse an opinion. Any personal viewpoint or speculation had to be pried out of him. He lived long enough to see the post-9/11 explosion of opinion-based news coverage and frequently mistook CNN and Fox for comedy shows. They reminded him of a French and Saunders parody.

Let?s try to end on an up-note. (I need to wrap this up so I can go back to pretending to be a cushion.)

Celebrities are not entirely useless. Once in a while their expressed opinions produce a positive outcome. For example: Let?s talk about those trailer park lads who took the rap for some unutterably gruesome child murders and then became known as the West Memphis Three. Damien Echols?of the three, he has the best hair and, as a result, received the harshest sentence?has a newly published gripping account of his conviction and his 18 years on death row titled Life After Death. Damien is now walking in the sun in Lower Manhattan thanks to the efforts of Johnny Depp, Eddie Vedder, director Peter Jackson, and Henry Rollins. After a close examination of the facts, they all came to the opinion that Mr. Echols was innocent and set about the task of strategizing his release. Bravo, girls!

One particular celeb who shall remain nameless?OK, it was Marilyn Manson?recognized his Snooki-potential and thoughtfully elected to support the West Memphis Three on the down low, which is another way of saying that, for the good of all concerned, he pretended to be a cushion.

Concrete Protection ? Guru Article Directory

Lots of home improvement projects will mean you using a concrete defense. Concrete is utilized for a large range of functions in building and construction. Concrete is made up of a combination of different substances such as cement, gravel, sand and additional aggregates, blended with water. Unique care should be taken to protect against the water in the blend from evaporating due to the fact that if this happens, spaces and voids may be left which could trigger the concrete to damage and create small holes and fractures in the concrete. More exposure to water and the extreme elements of the weather condition might wear down the concrete, decreasing its strength considerably. Concrete protection is beneficial to home owners and construction employees alike since it safeguards concrete from such structural issues.

If you have never ever made use of a concrete protection you could question exactly just how it works. It is typically made use of in filling the voids left from water drying up in the concrete, building up the surface due to a finish effective. Its also utilized on pre-cast concrete in parking areas, shielding the structural steel body from the impacts of water transmission. Salt and other corrosive aspects could trigger losses to concrete structures, especially in high traffic areas. It could also be used to prevent and decrease damages in such locations.

As talked about above, the most significant conveniences is providing defense from water transmission. Yet another benefit is its additionally a superb acrylic fracture resistant and conveniently adheres to most kinds of construction products such as block, concrete, polystyrene, SIPs and ICFs. 2 or three coats should be applied.

Concrete protection items are readily available at most home improvement product suppliers. Nevertheless, for bigger projects, it?s a good idea to directly contact suppliers to acquire such items. Products providers can be conveniently located with concrete specialists in addition to house structure associations. The Web is additionally an important resource, especially with its several websites on such items and applications. The Web is not just a good source of info on the numerous concrete coating products and brands offered, but also a good way to contrast rates. Concrete coating projects are best managed by expert specialists because they have the capability to correctly figure out the particular kind of pressure stood up to by concrete in a particular construction project.

Another prominent concrete flooring layer, specifically for garages and basements, is concrete paint or epoxy floor paint. The materials for this is a bit more costly than stains and the prep work is more vigorous. Paints need to have a relatively rough flooring profile in order to bond well and last.

Music: {allcanada} Small town throws big party for Cup, Kraft ...

Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC?

STIRLING-RAWDON, Ontario ? Kraft Hockeyville 2012 is already being considered a success, but there was a time when it was nearly over before it got started.

Of all things to get this town of about 1,900 revved up for hockey, it took a couple's wedding nuptials to get people motivated for Hockeyville.

"Our first two events, we hardly had anybody out," said Cindy Brandt, the chairperson who led the charge to bring Hockeyville here. "We had a Hockeyville wedding down at the covered bridge then we walked our 'Highway to Hockeyville' (to the rink) as we called it. Instead of a ring, they passed a Stanley Cup and the bride promised to bring her husband and his friends beer and party snacks for Hockey Night In Canada.

"After that, people were like, 'What are these people doing?' Before we knew it, people were phoning us with, 'When's your next event? There's nothing on your Web site.' It just happened that way. I think people bought into it because we were doing odd things just to try to increase awareness."

The three-day event started in the morning at the Stirling & District Recreation Centre, which will receive $100,000 in upgrades thanks to winning the Hockeyville contest, with Olympic silver medalist Elizabeth Manley conducting figure-skating classes. Sunday concluded with an alumni game that featured hometown hero Rob Ray, Gary Leeman, Matthew Barnaby and Brad Marsh among others.

But for Brandt, who is Ray's sister, having the Stanley Cup on display for pictures for three hours and a parade with the trophy as the centerpiece meant the most to her.

"What's exciting for us is the Stanley Cup being here," Brandt said. "That's the most exciting part for us, bringing the Cup to Stirling. These kids never get the opportunity to ever see the Stanley Cup, so that's the highlight for me."

The recreation centre, built in 1976, will be dressed up over the next few years, but the biggest thing for Brandt is the addition of girls-only locker rooms. As of now, they are unisex, but that will change soon.

"We're looking at three-phrase (project) with the money that we raised and the $100,000 we received from winning the Kraft Hockeyville," Brandt said. "It'll put a new front on our arena and we're on a five-year plan to finish the dressing rooms and have the ability for the girls to have their own dressing room here and make it wheelchair-accessible out front. That's important for us."

There were three overlapping events sprinkled through the morning and afternoon ? the skating clinic with Manley, who won her silver at the 1988 Games in Calgary, the parade that rolled down Front Street and concluded at the rink, and a festival in the rink's parking lot with former NHL players signing autographs and all kinds of games for the kids.

Sometimes figure skating can get lost in the shuffle in a hockey town, but that wasn't the case here.

"Liz is just great to have out here teaching these kids because she works so well with them," said Nick Myers, a proud father who was looking on with his wife, Laurie, as nine-year-old Madison took part in the clinic.

Myers credited Brand for making figure skating part of the festivities.

"I'm very grateful to her for getting the ball rolling on getting figure skaters involved," he said. "The support from everyone has been amazing."

There will be more clinics Monday and Tuesday with some of the NHL alumni taking part as instructors.

The parade, which caught a break when expected rainfall held off throughout the afternoon, featured a cavalcade of local flavor and pride. The Stanley Cup was the main attraction, but there were plenty of other interesting nuances to the procession, including:

-- "The Stirling Blues Brothers," two gentlemen dressed as Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi's "Blues Brothers" characters

-- A teenage boy wearing a clown wig and Alexander Mogilny Maple Leafs jersey who was pulled along by a pony

-- A man who goes by the name "Canadian Bob," who was dressed in red on a motorcycle decorated with Canadian flags and had a black Labrador in a basket resting above the back wheel

"It's pretty cool," said Todd Binnie, who had a front-row seat on his lawn for his second-ever viewing of the Stanley Cup. "It's a small town so we don't get to see that type of stuff too often."

The day concluded with an alumni game in front of about 700 fans packed into the tiny rink that only has seats on one side of the ice. In a town of 1,900, it was impossible to get everyone into the building, so the tickets were instead given to the volunteers who helped with fundraisers and events that led to Stirling-Rawdon winning the Hockeyville contest.

Rawdon defeated Stirling in the alumni game 7-4, but the outcome wasn't as paramount as what these three days will mean.

"The last time I was in this building was when I was 14 years old, so 30 years ago," Ray said. "I tell you ? it's a really tiny town, but the people here are obsessed with hockey and it shows. You could've sold 10,000 tickets for this game.

"It's awesome, because when you're here in small town Canada, sometimes you get forgotten about. You get looked at as a bunch of farmers, that type of thing. They're not. They proved here that when you pull together, that anything can happen. I think the group that put this together did a fabulous job. They gained momentum and got the ball rolling and I think it showed every small town out there that they should try it out, because anything is possible."

Sony's 2012 PlayStation torn down, shows its evolved roots (update: another teardown)

Sony 2012 PlayStation torn down to its tiny essentials, shows evolved roots video

We've looked intensely at the outside of the redesigned PlayStation 3 ever since it was unveiled in Tokyo last month. Getting a look inside has proven unusually tougher, but French YouTube member K0st3yr has volunteered to do what few gamers dare and tear down Sony's updated console. As we've quickly learned, Sony hasn't chosen to radically rework the insides like Microsoft did with the slim Xbox 360. The Cell processor and its RSX graphics companion are still separate parts, and a similar power supply capacity suggests that neither of the main chips has been built on a more efficient manufacturing process. Instead, it's everything else that has been given the shuffle: a smaller Blu-ray drive and more clever overall construction appear to be the tickets to the 20 percent volume reduction compared to the last model. While the revealed internals might be disappointments to those who were hoping the PS3's possible sendoff would involve more of a bang than a whimper, they do hint that Sony might have breathing room if it wants to advance the design any further. Just have some popcorn and a grasp of French on hand if you'd like to have a peek at the three-part video dissection found after the break.

Update: Not to be outdone, iFixit has conducted its own teardown. There aren't any shockers in the mix beyond improved repairability, but you'll find many of the components given their exact names as well as more explanations of what's been changed to shrink the PS3 a second time.
