GFI Cloud

GFI cloud is an IT management platform that offers administrators real-time tracking of company assets, availability, and compliance. Agents installed on each computer communicate with the cloud portal to give administrators a clear overview of what is happening with each endpoint at all times. Problem machines are grouped together and flagged so that administrators can immediately see which systems need immediate action.

Rundown of Capabilities
The capabilities are determined by the type of license you have. For this review, the trial license I had gave me access to GFI VIPRE Business Online, an antivirus product that scans for potential malware infections, and GFI Network Server Monitor Online, which provides complete visibility into the health of the computer. VIPRE detects what kind of computer it is being installed on and runs the level of malware protection appropriate for that profile. Network Server Monitor Online is also profile-based in that the types of checks and scans the service runs is determined by the computer type and software installed. Asset Tracking, or the ability to track the hardware configuration of each computer and all installed software packages, is offered for free on every single system.

There are many options that can be modified, ranging from how frequently VIPRE scans files, to the kind of scans to perform, adding new network monitoring tests, modifying hardware profiles, and even configuring the frequency of tests. I sometimes had trouble finding the appropriate screen with the options, though. The same buttons went to entirely different screens depending on where that button was. I wound up clicking around various screens to try to find the correct option. It took some time and I eventually learned where things were, but it could have been easier.

While the interface is jam-packed with features, I would have preferred a little bit more attention paid to the Help sections. Clicking on the Help link opens up a form to send a note to the GFI support team. Having access to an FAQ, links to available documentation, even a list of common help topics would have made the Help section a bit more useful.

That said, the portal does have helpful cues scattered across the pages. For example, a large button clearly shows how to add new computers to the portal. Some pages also have a link with an exclamation mark (!) icon that takes the user to the relevant section on the online User Guide. Just combining some of these questions all in one place on the Help page would have gone a long way towards making it useful.

Setup and Registration
Like Panorama9's, GFI Cloud's management portal is cloud-based, so there's nothing to install. Unlike Panorama9, with GFI Cloud, each computer being monitored needs to have an agent manually installed. Administrators sign up for an account on GFICloud.com, select the services they are interested in, and then install the agent from the portal. The agents regularly "check in," or sends information to and receives instructions from GFI Cloud. So long as the computer has an Internet connection, the agent will be able to push its status up to the cloud portal.

Thanks to the agents, administrators can track the computer's health and performance even when it is not on the corporate network.

For this review of GFI Cloud, I selected both GFI VIPRE Business Online and GFI Network Server Monitor Online, and customized which machines got which level of protection.All the machines automatically were included for asset tracking.

As soon as the agent was installed, I could see the computer in the Web interface and learned that VIPRE won't run on machines that already have a security product installed. I clicked on the "Licenses" screen and modified the license to disable VIPRE on this computer. When I went back to the main screen, the computer had a "No problems detected" status.

I logged into GFI Cloud from a different computer and tapped the "Add computers" icon on the main screen to download the agent to add the next machine. I repeated the process for two more machines running Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7. I modified the Licenses screen to have VIPRE running on them both.

The platform assigned a hardware profile to each machine. I could switch profiles manually, between, laptop server, desktop, Exchange Server, Small Business Server 2003, Small Business Server 2008, Small Business Server 2011, and SQL Server. The interface also allows you to create new profiles for other hardware types.

How Do We Get Out Of A Contract With A Real Estate Broker ...

Q: We listed our home with a broker in May. Since the listing we found out through another Realtor that the asking price of our home was dropped $2000.00. We were not aware of the drop because we had not spoken to the listing broker about any price drop. When we called our Realtor and asked about the price drop she denied it.(This was in the middle of August). She was also questioned that same day about signs that where suppose to have been placed in different locations leading to our house the day it was listed.(That where not). She said that she would put the other signs out and put a brochure box on the sign in front of the house. We drove to the listed house about a week later (as we have already moved into a new home) to mow the yard and trim before it was to be shown the next day. While at the listed home we grabbed a brochure out of the box. The price did reflect a $2000.00 price drop, which we were told did not happen. Called the realtor the next day and asked what was going on? Why did she lie and tell us the price hadn?t dropped when in fact she had dropped it without our consent). Point being she LIED?. After asking what was going on she lied again to cover the first lie. This time as shes talking to my husband she says ..Well I know I talked to somebody, Your wife said it was OK.(NOT) Another Lie. We hadn?t talked to her (the Realtor in about 2 months) No communication of any sort good bad or otherwise. My Husband told her to take her signs and lockbox of our door she was done. We are not about to deal with a Realtor that has no morals or ethics. LONG STORY SHORT WE WANT HER OUT!!

A: If your Realtor is with a company, she probably has a managing broker (unless she is the managing broker). You should speak with the managing broker about terminating the listing contract. Exoma Energy drills shale well in Australia

Australia-based Exoma Energy has begun drilling eleventh exploration well in the onshore Galilee basin, located in Queensland, Australia, as a part of its Galilee Joint Venture?s 2012 exploration program.

The company is drilling the Fittleworth-1 shale exploration well in permit ATP 1005P to a planned total depth of 1,159m and is targeting oil and gas in the Toolebuc shale.

Exoma has plans to core the well through the Toolebuc shale section. The core samples will then be analyzed in laboratory.

Upon the completion of coring Exoma will further drill the well to provide depth control to local seismic data.

The company owns 50% interest each in the permit ATP 1005P as well as in the exploration well.

CNOOC, joint venture partner of The Galilee Joint Venture 2012 exploration program, is providing the first $50m of the partnership's expenditures for Exoma's five Galilee Basin ATP exploration permits.

Sedentary lifestyles can be very hazardous to the nature of mankind and the way in which the upcoming generations are shaping up. The presence of a healthy diet and a keen sense of exercises should be made a necessity by this generation. Given the high rate of cardiovascular diseases in a country like India, it should be promoted as a social responsibility. Initiating such a regimen can be possible, even on a very short note ? like walking. Short walks, long walks, skipping the overcrowded bus to work, power-jogs, sprints, etc. are some ways in which you can keep yourself and on your toes for most part of the day.

If walking is a part of your occupation, there?s nothing like it. Then, all you would have to do is just pay some attention towards your overall food habits. In a busy city life, we come across several people who spend most of the day on their feet as a part of their occupation ? salesmen, gym instructors, construction workers, sportsmen, etc. Spending a fair amount of the day trying to exercise your leg muscles gives you strong calves and therefore, sturdy legs. Your body balance is maintained and your posture, too, is positively affected. However, there are some negative effects, too. Too much of walking will drain out your bodily energy, until it is replenished ? with the help of a nutritious diet.

Walking, as a Health regime, requires a lot of patience as well. Results can never be projected overnight and a habit needs to be cultivated. It works as a slow antidote against your fat ? the moment you?ve lost expectations (without giving up on your exercise schedule) is when, usually, your walking exercises work in your favor. You need to approach it in a very positive fashion. Of late, the series of marathon races conducted in a few metropolitan cities of India has led to an increase in the popularization of the ?jogging? culture amongst a new breed of citizens ? the young, the middle-aged and the old. If you indeed wish to become a marathon runner, you need to have two things in tow ? a strict cardio regimen and a dynamic nutritious diet. Giving in to your weaknesses means taking a few steps back ? kinda? like starting from the top. Often, nutritionists are consulted by such prospective race enthusiasts, since diet forms a very important part of this task and cannot be compromised with.
For those who believe in gradually starting the ?walking? routine, it is better if these exercise patterns are included in daily activities such as buying milk from the shop nearby, walking to the bus stop two blocks away from your normal halt, looking for any possible excuse to scale up and down the stairs in the office (with no harm done to the order of work). In these cases, keeping a tab on your diet, the kind of food you eat, becomes important since that?s the only way you could get results faster than your exercise routine. A right mix of carbs and proteins in a low-fat diet should ensure that nothing but the right nutrients pass through your windpipe.
To sum it all up, work or not, walking forms a part of our life, which slowly but surely, has stopped coming naturally to us. Thus, we keep signing up for gym memberships, etc.

Rare Disease Science Challenge- Your Call to Action!

If you or a loved one is unlucky enough to be affected by a rare disease then it can be a continued uphill struggle. Your doctor will likely never have seen a case before which means you suffer with symptoms while awaiting diagnosis, and this can sometimes take years. Even when an accurate diagnosis is reached there may be few treatment options; the pharmaceutical companies just aren t interested in developing drugs to treat such a small market. For the majority (>95%) of the 7000 rare diseases there is no FDA approved therapy. Perhaps the cruelest twist of rare diseases, however, is that so many of the patients are young children. The NIH estimates that 50% of rare diseases affect children, and 30% of pediatric cases die before they reach their 5^th birthday!

Collectively rare diseases are not rare. The fact is that while a disease might be labeled as rare , the number of persons suffering from one of the thousands of rare diseases is estimated at 10% of the population [1], or approx. 30 million people in the United States and 350 million people globally. Mainstream pharmaceutical companies have long ignored rare diseases. With the increasing de-centralization of scientific research, and the growth of the citizen science movement, however, there has never been a better time to tackle this problem head on. That s exactly what Assay Depot is doing by teaming up with the Rare Genomics Institute ? to bring awareness to the current broken system for diagnosing, treating and curing rare diseases.

The Rare Genomics Institute provides hope to children suffering with a rare disease. Most rare diseases are genetic in nature, caused by a mutation somewhere in the 3.2 billion bases of human DNA. The Rare Genomics Institute uses crowdfunding to pay for sequencing of the sick child s genome and then assembles a network of academic specialists who work together to identify the child s genetic mutation. Now Assay Depot has teamed up with The Rare Genomics Institute to take the process one-step farther, and go on the offensive with the Rare Disease Science Challenge.

The competition is open to researchers, foundations, or everyday people. Families with a child afflicted with a rare disease will have the opportunity to work with a network of academic researchers and use donated research services to develop research proposals tailored to their child?s needs. An expert panel of scientists will evaluate the research proposals with the final winner(s) selected by Facebook voting.

If we can improve the standard of care for just one rare disease we will bring relief to thousands of people, very likely children, who currently suffer. We think that is a dream worth fighting for. I am sure Chris and Hugh Hempel would agree. Their identical twin daughters, Addison and Cassidy, have been diagnosed with Niemann-Pick Type C, a rare, incurable and fatal genetic disease that causes progressive neurological deterioration. This week Global Genes, the leading rare and genetic disease patient advocacy organizations in the world, with the Kauffman Foundation is screening the Hempels story in Hollywood and revealing the grim truth; that diagnosing, treating and curing rare disease is moving at a tedious pace, and leaving heart-rending personal accounts in its path.

How can you help?

If you work for a company that offers research services or makes lab consumables, reagents or instruments ask them to get involved. The great thing about sponsorship is that it will cost your company very little, we re not asking for money, just a donation of time or resources. Does your company make antibodies? How about donating some production capacity? Do you sell DNA sequencers, or mass spec instruments? Could you run some samples in your lab for us?

If you put your mind to it there are a multitude of ways your company could get involved for very little cost, and in return get some great publicity, and help a very worthy cause.

Burden of epilepsy in developing world described

ScienceDaily (Sep. 27, 2012) ? The burden of epilepsy in poorer parts of the world could be readily alleviated by reducing the preventable causes and improving access to treatment, according to a review article published September 27 in the Lancet.

The researchers call for greater recognition from international and national health agencies to address the management of epilepsy in the developing world.

Despite being one of the most cost-effective disorders to treat, there are twice as many people living with epilepsy in low- and lower-middle-income countries than higher income nations and more than 60% of those affected in these regions are not accessing any appropriate treatment.

Lead author Professor Charles Newton, who works in the Wellcome Trust programmes in Tanzania and Kenya, said: "Epilepsy needs to be brought into the agenda of non-communicable diseases. It was not mentioned in the UN General Assembly Meeting in New York to address the global burden of non-communicable diseases, and yet it represents a substantial burden of ill health."

Epilepsy is a common disorder, particularly in poor areas of the world, but deriving accurate figures on the epidemiology of epilepsy in low- and lower-middle income countries is very difficult. There have been very few surveys to gather appropriate data and such studies tend to be expensive, especially for countries whose health research funding is likely to be very limited.

Professor Newton and Professor Hector Garcia, both Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellows, conducted a comprehensive review of academic articles about epilepsy in developing countries in order to piece together a picture of the burden of the disease in poorer parts of the world.

They conclude that the high number of people with epilepsy in these regions is likely caused by the higher incidence of risk factors, such as head trauma, complications during childbirth, and parasite infections such as pork tapeworm (neurocysticercosis), and river blindness (onchocerciasis).

The study also reveals the enormity of the treatment gap in poorer nations, with over 60% of people living with epilepsy in low- and lower-middle-income countries not accessing appropriate care. This is partly due to poor adherence to prescribed treatment but there remain huge barriers to accessing care, particularly in rural areas. The stigma associated with the disorder and cultural beliefs around causation is identified as a major problem, along with distance from a health-care facility and inadequate skilled manpower.

The epilepsy burden could be easily reduced by addressing some of the risk factors, say the authors. They highlight several ways in which epilepsy care could be improved at low cost, including by engaging traditional healers who for many people are the only point of care for epilepsy. Given the lack of expertise in management of epilepsy in poorer areas, they suggest that neurologists and psychiatrists should combine to set up services for the management of epilepsy in these regions.

"Sadly, adequate facilities for diagnosis, treatment and on-going management of epilepsy are virtually non-existent in many of the world's poorest regions. Many people with epilepsy or their families do not even know that they have a disorder that can be controlled with biomedical treatment, so it is vitally important that awareness is raised and medical care improved in these regions," added Professor Newton.

OSHAWA, Ontario/DETROIT (Reuters) - Just three days before a strike deadline, the Canadian Auto Workers and the three Detroit automakers were far apart on major contract issues, with Chrysler Group's chief executive telling workers to temper their expectations and plant organizers preparing for a walkout.

Talks between the union and Fiat SpA's Chrysler Group LLC <FIA.MI>, General Motors Co <GM.N> and Ford Motor Co <F.N> continued around the clock as time ticked down to the union's strike deadline of 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday (0359 GMT, Tuesday).

CAW National President Ken Lewenza said the companies had rejected the union's proposed concessions on wages for new hires, insisting on permanently lower wages for new employees, something Lewenza called a "no-go."

"We can be flexible on wage progression," said Lewenza in an interview with Reuters. "But it can't be a long-term, permanent two-tier system, and they reject that outright."

The CAW had proposed cutting starting wages below the roughly C$24 ($25) an hour currently offered and extending the "earn-in," the time it takes new employees to reach the top of the pay scale.

The Detroit automakers and the United Auto Workers in the United States have used a two-tier wage scale for the past several years to bring labor costs closer to those of foreign automakers. But the CAW is adamant that unlike UAW members, its new workers eventually reach the same pay as existing employees.

The CAW, which represents some 20,000 workers at the Detroit Three, has threatened an unprecedented simultaneous strike at all three automakers if it fails to reach a contract agreement with at least one of them before the deadline.

Lewenza said he is frustrated but still "hopeful" that he will have a deal by the deadline.

Chrysler declined to comment on Lewenza's comments, and Ford and GM could not immediately be reached on Friday evening.

Earlier on Friday, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne warned union negotiators that they couldn't keep ignoring the "facts" since that was not going to "make anybody's life better."

Marchionne did not provide details, but in the past he has said that manufacturing costs in Canada, which he calls the highest in the world, must be addressed in the current contract talks.

"My sincere hope is that we all come to the stark realization of where we are and then we move it on from here," he told reporters at a United Way of Southeastern Michigan news conference. Marchionne is the chairman of that charity group.

He added that some progress has been made in the talks but said there is a "long road to travel between now and conclusion."

CONCESSIONS

Lewenza said the union proposed temporarily freezing workers' cost of living allowance, an annual wage increase, in exchange for a lump-sum payment. But he said the companies want to eliminate the cost of living allowance altogether.

He also said he is willing to be flexible on pensions for new employees. Asked whether he would consider anything other than a defined benefit pension plan, he said: "I think we have a responsibility to be flexible."

Defined benefit plans are typically paid for by companies and are becoming rarer as employers struggle to fund yawning pension shortfalls and look to switch employees to self-funded defined contribution plans.

But when it comes to making compromises, said Dino Chiodo, chair of the CAW's Chrysler master bargaining committee, the union is looking for something in return.

"We are asking obviously for investment, job security and product allocation for that," he said.

Negotiators are pushing for investments in GM's Oshawa operations and Ford's Windsor engine plant, as well as a new paint shop at Chrysler's Brampton, Ontario, facility, the Globe and Mail newspaper reported, citing an unnamed senior union source.

CAW PREPARES TO STRIKE

On Friday afternoon, GM assembly line worker Peter Johnston was at the CAW's Oshawa offices, preparing for a strike. The local has thousands of picket signs stockpiled, and portable washrooms on order for use at GM's Oshawa assembly plant.

Johnston, a 32-year veteran, works on the consolidated line at the Oshawa plant. GM has said it will shut down the line next summer, putting as many as 2,000 workers, nearly a quarter of GM's unionized Canadian employees, out of work.

"I'm like everybody else, the uncertainty rides on me. I fear for the future of the workers at General Motors, and the municipality around here," he said.

What to Look for in a Good Auto Repair Shop [Cars]

Ever get that sneaking suspicion when you take your car in for repair that you're overpaying or getting needless work done? If you want to make sure you get service you can trust, keep in mind these tips for what to ask at the shop and signs of good (and bad) mechanics.

The first thing on Reader's Digest's list of 29 tips from mechanics and car experts is to look out for scare tactics?warnings like "I wouldn't drive this another mile." In that case, you might want to go for a second opinion. (Whenever you get a second opinion, also be smart and don't tell the mechanic the first diagnosis and price.)

I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to test Plaid?s new Martha Stewart glass paint and adhesive silkscreens (available at Michaels). I was given a huge box of glass paints, silkscreens, tools, and total creative freedom to make whatever I wanted. We?ve got Halloween on the brain around here, so I couldn?t help myself from making something a little creepy. Take a look at these spider cloches and check out how easy they are to make?

Transform plain cylinder vases into spooky spider cloches.

Use your cloche to hold anything you like. We chose spiders, but you could also use small pumpkins, photos, leaves, flowers ? whatever catches your eye.

With the flip of a switch, these light up for evening use.

For this project I used:

Plaid Supplies:

• Martha Stewart Crafts?? Metallic Opaque Glass Paint, Black Nickel
• Martha Stewart Crafts? Glass Silkscreen
• Martha Stewart Crafts? Glass Paint Stenciling Tools
  

  Other Supplies:

• Foam paint brush
• Two glass cylinder vases
• Two drawer pulls
• Two battery-operated tea lights
• High strength hot glue
• Removable adhesive putty
• Plastic spiders

For this project I wanted the tops of the cloches to look like they were capped in metal, so I chose to work with Martha Stewart black nickel paint and a delicate filigree-style silkscreen.

Clean and dry vase. Turn vase upside down and apply adhesive silkscreen to the glass at about 1-inch down from the base. Using the foam pouncer (a cylindrical sponge perfect for this project and also by the Martha Stewart Craft brand), dab on a layer of paint. Apply a second coat if necessary.

Remove silkscreen while paint is still wet. Allow to dry and continue the pattern all the way around the circumference of the vase.

Using a brush, paint the base of the vase and take the paint down the sides to meet the stencil line.

This is what your project should look like at this stage.

Glue on a drawer pull.

Attach a battery-operated tea light to the interior base of the vase with removable adhesive putty (available in the same aisle you would find picture hanging supplies).

Place your cloche over a huge plastic spider and creep out your kids.

Studies shed light on how to reduce the amount of toxins in plant-derived foods

ScienceDaily (Sep. 12, 2012) ? A number of environmental toxins pose considerable health threats to humans, and the heavy metal cadmium (Cd) ranks high on the list. Most of us are exposed to it through plant-derived foods such as grains and vegetables. Now, new research offers ways in which investigators can reduce the amount of Cd found in the food we eat, according to a review published online September 12th in the Cell Press journal Trends in Plant Science.

"Cadmium is virtually everywhere in the environment, and it is taken up into the human body and bioaccumulates for decades in the kidney," says first author Dr. Stephan Clemens, of the department of plant physiology at the University of Bayreuth, in Germany. Cd exposure may lead to kidney dysfunction, osteoporosis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and other serious health conditions. Because there is no safe level of cadmium exposure, there is an urgent need for lowering its intake.

Most Cd enters the body through plant-derived foods because plants can efficiently take up Cd from the soil. "We need to further develop molecular understanding of the mechanisms that lead to plant Cd uptake for the reduction of Cd levels in food. Fortunately, our knowledge is growing," says Dr. Clemens.

In their recent review, Dr. Clemens and his colleagues examined studies investigating how Cd accumulates in certain plants, and they used the information to determine how we might develop low Cd accumulating crops. "Through excellent basic rice molecular biology and genetics research, we have in the past couple of years learned a lot about why one rice plant accumulates more Cd in the grain than another rice plant even when they are grown on the same field," he explains. "This knowledge can now be used for targeted and efficient breeding to develop cultivars that retain their favorable characteristics but transport less Cd to the grain." He adds that we should also make an effort to better understand Cd accumulation in other crop plants such as wheat and potato. The authors note that, to their knowledge, breeding for low Cd accumulation is not common practice, but it should be possible because there is such variation in Cd uptake by different varieties of rice, wheat, and other plants, and because research has identified genes that can be used as markers to select specific varieties to breed.

It would of course be best to get rid of Cd in the environment, "but it will take a long time to achieve this; in the meantime we need other solutions," says Dr. Clemens.

Dems Hope to Win House Control With Ryan's Help

The selection of Rep. Paul Ryan as Mitt Romney's Republican running mate will have a positive affect on Congressional races - for the Democrats.

That's the claim made today by Rep. Steve Israel, the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Israel, who is from New York, said Ryan's selection for the GOP ticket highlights Ryan's controversial budget plan and will make it easier for the Democrats to regain control of the House.

"We go into the final stretch with a breeze at our backs," Israel said. "We have work to do but the momentum has shifted on our behalf."

"Paul Ryan has become a down ballot disaster around the country" for Republicans, Israel said.

A common argument for the Democrats in House races from coast to coast has been a focus on the Ryan budget, particularly with regard to his proposals on Medicare. Democratic challengers and Democratic incumbents have been attacking their Republican opponents for their support of Ryan's plan which Democrats say "would end Medicare as we know it."

Israel said that although Democrats have been making this argument, it was bolstered when Romney "grabbed the microphone" from Democrats and chose Ryan as his running mate.

"He gave us the debate we wanted," said Israel.

The DCCC has a list of 50 "red to blue" races, which is a list of targeted races where the party is working to pick up seats from Republicans. The Democrats have been arguing that they have a good shot of netting the 25 seats necessary to reclaim the majority.

Israel said that the DCCC has reserved $61 million in ad buys for the fall. The National Republican Congressional Committee, the DCCC's Republican counterpart, has reserved $43 million, he said.

The NRCC did not immediately respond to ABC's request for response.

Libya attack may have been planned and organized

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The attack that killed the U.S. ambassador and three other American diplomats in Benghazi, Libya, may have been planned and organized in advance, U.S. government officials said on Wednesday.

The officials said that there were indications that members of a militant faction calling itself Ansar al Sharia - which translates as Supporters of Islamic Law - may have been involved in organizing the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya's second-largest city.

They also said some reporting from the region suggested that members of Al-Qaeda's north Africa-based affiliate, known as Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, may have been involved.

"It bears the hallmarks of an organized attack" and appeared to be preplanned, one U.S. official said.

The officials asked for anonymity when discussing sensitive information. More specific details about the possible role of militant groups or cells in the attack were not immediately available.

One U.S. official noted that, in the wake of the collapse of the government of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi last year, Libyan government arsenals were looted, making small arms and more sophisticated weapons available both to potential militants and black marketeers.

Some U.S. officials cautioned against assuming that the Benghazi attack, or a similarly-timed violent protest at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, were deliberately organized to coincide with the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks carried out by al Qaeda in Washington and New York.

U.S. and European officials said that in contrast to the Benghazi attack, which some investigators say may have been calculated and organized, the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Cairo appeared more likely to have been a spontaneous eruption by a mob.

Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Foreign Service Officer Sean Smith and two other Americans who have not yet been identified were killed when gunmen stormed the consulate and another U.S. safe house in Benghazi on Tuesday.

A London think-tank run by a former Libyan militant leader suggested on Tuesday that not only was the Benghazi attack "well planned," but that it may have been retaliation for an American drone attack which killed a Libyan leader of al-Qaeda's core command group earlier this year.

The Quilliam Foundation said that 24 hours before the Benghazi incident, al Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, distributed a video to militant websites in which he confirmed the death of his second in command, known as Abu Yahya al-Libi, and urged Libyans to avenge his killing.

Quilliam, whose president, Noman Benotman, once was a leader of an anti-Gaddafi militant faction known as the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, said that according to its sources, up to 20 militants had prepared for a military assault.

Quilliam said the assault on the Benghazi Consulate took place in two waves. After the first wave, U.S. officials arranged an evacuation of the Consulate by Libyan security forces. As the evacuation was taking place, a second wave of attacks was launched against U.S. officials who had already been moved to a supposedly secure location, Quilliam said.

The Eurasia Group, a strategic consulting firm, said that it also believed that "the attack on the consulate was an orchestrated response by an organized Salafist (ultra-orthodox Muslim) group."

AP Exclusive: New intelligence on Iran nuke work

VIENNA (AP) ? The U.N. atomic agency has received new intelligence that Iran has moved further toward the ability to build a nuclear weapon by advancing its work on calculating the destructive power of an atomic warhead, diplomats tell The Associated Press.

The diplomats say the information comes from Israel, the United States and at least two other Western countries and concludes that the work was done sometime within the past three years. The time-frame is significant because if the International Atomic Energy Agency decides that the intelligence is credible, it would strengthen its concerns that Iran has continued weapons work into the recent past ? and may be continuing to do so.

Because such work is done through computer modeling and must be accompanied by physical tests of the components that go into a nuclear weapon, it would also support IAEA fears outlined in detail in November that Tehran is carrying out weapons research on multiple fronts.

"You want to have a theoretical understanding of the working of a nuclear weapon that is then related to the experiments you do on the various components," said David Albright, whose Washington-based Institute for Science and International Security is a frequent go-to source on Iran for Congress and other U.S. government branches. "The two go hand-in-hand."

Such computer mock-ups typically assess how high explosives compress fissile warhead material, setting off the chain reaction that results in a nuclear explosion. The yield is normally calculated in kilotons.

Any new evidence of Iranian research into nuclear weapons is likely to strengthen the hand of hawks in Israel who advocate a military strike on Iran. They argue that Tehran is deliberately stalemating international efforts at engagement while continuing its clandestine weapons work.

Iran denies any interest in nuclear weapons and says suspicions that it ever tried to develop them are based on fabricated U.S, Israeli and other intelligence. At the same time, it has blunted IAEA efforts to investigate such claims for more than five years.

It also has scoffed at Western allegations that it is enriching uranium to make the core of nuclear warheads, saying it seeks only to create reactor fuel. But it refuses to accept offers of such fuel from abroad and is now producing material that is easier to turn into weapons-grade uranium than its main, lower-enriched stockpile.

Although some of the new information was said to have been supplied by the United States, it appears to run counter to the stated U.S. position that Iran shut down wide-ranging secret research and development of the components of a nuclear weapons program in 2003. At the same time the U.S. fears that Iran continues to move toward the threshold of making such arms by enriching uranium.

Ali Asghar Soltanieh, Iran's chief IAEA delegate, cut short a telephone request for comment, saying he could not talk because he was in a meeting. In Tehran, meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesman Rahmin Mehmanparast told reporters that Iran will start answering the agency's "questions and concerns" only when "our rights and security issues" are recognized.

IAEA spokeswoman Gill Tudor said the agency would not comment. But four of six diplomats who spoke to the AP on the issue said an oblique passage in the IAEA's August Iran report saying "the agency has obtained more information which further corroborates" its suspicions alludes to the new intelligence.

All six demanded anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss classified information member countries make available to the IAEA.

Two of them said the new information builds on what the agency previously knew, not only because the research was apparently performed past 2009 but also because it reflects that Iran has allegedly moved closer to the overall ability to develop a nuclear weapon.

The IAEA first outlined suspicions in November that Iran was working on calculating the yield of a nuclear weapon, as part of a 13-page summary of Iran's suspected nuclear weapons work that it said was based on more than 1,000 pages of research and intelligence from more than 10 member nations.

It said then that "the modeling studies alleged to have been conducted in 2008 and 2009 by Iran ... (are) of particular concern," adding that the purpose of such studies for calculating anything other than nuclear explosion yields is "unclear to the agency."

Albright, of the Institute for Science and International Security, said such computer-run modeling is "critical to the development of a nuclear weapon."

Top five fights to look forward to in September

We're in the middle of an unexpected slow period of MMA. With the cancellation of UFC 151 and UFC 152 still a week and a half away, it doesn't feel like fight fans have much to look forward to. With a sport as constant as MMA, our attention spans are short. But hold on, Cagereaders. We still have plenty to look forward to in September. For example, in no particular order:

Joe Benavidez vs. Demetrious Johnson for the first UFC flyweight title at UFC 152, Sept. 22: Of course, the lion's share of publicity will go to the Jon Jones/Vitor Belfort at title fight, but expect the 125-lbers to steal the spotlight. Both Benavidez and Johnson bring exciting fights with them into every bout, and now they'll get to show off their skills for five rounds.

Dan Hardy vs. Amir Sadollah at UFC on Fuel 5, Sept. 29: Both Hardy and Sadollah are in need of a win and capable of finishing fights. Plus, I can't wait to hear how the crowd in Nottingham will erupt when Brit favorite Dan Hardy walks out.

Nordine Taleb vs. Marius Zaromskis at Bellator 74, Sept. 28: I always mark my calender when Zaromskis is fighting. Of his 18 wins, 13 are by knockout, but he is susceptible to being knocked out, too. Either way, this opening round bout of the Bellator welterweight tournament is likely to end in a highlight.

David Armas vs. Darrion Caldwell at Legacy Fighting, Sept. 14: This fight is highly anticipated by college wrestling fans. Caldwell won a national championship for North Carolina State over the highly touted Brent Metcalf from Iowa. Fans either love him or hate him, and will be tuning in with the hopes of Caldwell owning his MMA debut or him getting knocked out by Armas.

Jorge Santiago vs. Quinn Mulhern at Strikeforce, Sept. 29: Santiago had a tough go in the UFC, losing back-to-back fights before winning two fights in the Titan Fighting Championships. He will get another chance to prove himself at Strikeforce against Mulhern, who is riding a three-fight win streak.
